SCUBY: successful start in Ljubljana !

On the 15th of February 2019, the SCUBY (SCale-Up an integrated care package for diaBetes and hYpertension) project was successfully launched in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The launch event followed a 4-day kick-off workshop to deliberate and plan for the implementation of the project among the working partners from Slovenia Belgium, Cambodia and The Netherlands.



The event was attended by working partners of the SCUBY project and stakeholders from Slovenia including the Ministry of Health, National Health Insurance, the metropolitan council of Ljubljana, the nursing and midwifery council and other representatives from the civil society. There were presentations from the key stakeholders on how the scaling up of the integrated care package could help improve health outcomes and foster cross-country collaborations. The event was covered by the press.


Dr. Miguel Lizaso, representative from the European Commission Horizon 2020

The occasion was also graced by a representative from the European Commission Horizon 2020, who is charge of the SCUBY project, Dr. Miguel Lizaso. Dr. Lizaso gave a presentation on the European Union’s support for research and innovation and the research areas funded under the Horizon 2020, which is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020). He further pledged the continuous support of the European Commission to the success of the project and stressed on the commission’s high expectations of the outcome of the project.

Dr. Josefien Van Olmen, the leading principal investigator of SCUBY, also gave a presentation to introduce the project and to call for stakeholder support in realizing the goals of the project. The event ended with a plenary session to further discuss how SCUBY could harness the support of all stakeholders for successful implementation.

The ensuing drink took place in a friendly atmosphere and was the opportunity for the stakeholders to strengthen the links for their future collaboration.
